Obituary

Westbrook – Claire L. Mauney, 81, passed away Thursday March 29, at Springbrook Health Care. She was born in Woonsocket, R.I., the daughter of Alfred and Ida Girouard Jacques. She grew up in the Greater Portland area with her sister and 2 brothers and resided in Westbrook for many years. Claire's early career began as a bank teller at Westbrook Trust Bank while caring for her daughter living in Maine. She took great pride in her work which was of great importance to her that she was giving back to her community. Her other loves were music, dance, books, politics, film and the sea, its beaches, its craggy coastline, its soulfulness. She found great solace there which began her long arduous study, her life long journey and her infinite discovery of spirituality which she practiced throughout her life. Her oneness with God was her center.                                                                                       She spent time in Florida where she remarried and managed a mortgage company.  There, she maintained her lovely home with its beautiful gardens and loved sharing those and her culinary skills to please her guests. In 1976 upon her return to her beloved Maine, she resided in Portland, continued her studies, and enjoyed her many friends and family. Her compassion for animals was unprecedented and she rescued many over the years.                                                                She was giving to everyone, feisty, with an immeasurable sense of humor and a boundless will.  Through much introspection, she knew herself well and remained close to her core beliefs. Her persona was unparalleled which captured the hearts of many. She will forever remain with us and we will always love her.                                                             Claire was pre deceased by her parents and a brother Richard Charles Jacques. She is survived by a daughter Candace and husband Michael Koltz of Merrimack, N.H., grandson Christopher Michael and wife Tylisha Decker of Canyon Lake, TX., granddaughter Jenna and husband Glynn Wedgewood of Austin, TX, great grandchildren Christopher Michael Decker Jr., Ethan Charles Decker, Owen Wedgewood and Naveah Williams, sister Germaine and husband Ernest Dandeneau of Westbrook, brother Robert and wife Cleo Jacques of Melbourne, FL., sister in law Berdee Jacques of Gastonia, N.C., many nieces and nephews and special friend Denise Dimitri.
