Obituary

Christine W. Southard 1961-2024 Christine W. Southard passed away in her home surrounded by her family just before midnight on Sunday, February 18, 2024. Christine was born in 1961 to Stanley and Mary Waterman of North Haven, Maine. "Tina" spent her youth on the island playing basketball, going on Sunday picnics, and spending time in and around the ocean. She graduated at the top of her class from North Haven Community School before moving to the mainland to attend the University of Southern Maine. At USM, she was a founding member of the women's cross-country team and graduated with a degree in biology. Always a strong advocate for the Earth and its care, she went on to hold several jobs focused on environmental protection and conservation. She met her husband, Kevin, and started a family, moving to Gorham when the kids were very young. She left the workforce to raise her four children and spent countless hours attending band concerts and sporting events. Christine sought to help whoever she could in any way she could, volunteering with the Girl Scouts, Gorham public schools, and her church, where she held multiple leadership positions. Christine was happiest when exploring the outdoors, walking, hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and especially kayaking all around Maine. Never one to sit still or shy away from tackling a new project, she was adept at knitting, crocheting, painting, gardening, landscaping, woodworking, sewing, quilting, cross stitching, photography, and baking. She ran her own home cafe during the pandemic for her family and was a vocal proponent of "ice cream lunch." She is survived and remembered by her parents; sister, Laurie; husband of 35 years; four children, Emily, Matthew, Hannah, and Jesse and his wife Samantha; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to: North Haven Conservation Partners - American Cancer Society -
