Christian C. Hyland Jr. of Falmouth passed away peacefully at his daughter Christine's house in New Gloucester on September 25 surrounded by his family. Christian was born in Portland on June 8th 1937, the son of Christian Sr. and Elizabeth Hyland. After graduating from Falmouth high school in 1956 Christian joined the United States Air Force and worked as an aircraft mechanic for four years. After serving his time in the service at the Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii, Christian went on to work for S.D Warren paper mill in Westbrook for the next 35 years before retiring. He married the love of his life Katherine in 1965 and they recently celebrated their 50th anniversary in February. He was also a member of the UAW Local 1069. Christian loved to go to Beech ridge speedway and watch the races, as well as going to Scarborough downs with his friend Donald. His final days were spent with Brad watching T.V and having good conversation. Christian was predeceased by his parents, and a sister Arlene Dexter. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Katherine (Eaton) Hyland, his sister Sonja Phillips, his sons, Christian Hyland III, Ronald "Bubba" Collins, and John Collins, his daughters Terry Babb, Vicky Collins, and Christine "Teeny" Hyland, his ten grandchildren, Melissa, Katie, Amanda, Michael, Nadine, Matthew, Alec, Taylor, Olivia, and Kiki, as well as 8 great grandchildren, Natasha, Desmond, Davion, Dylon, Donovan, Talia, Brighton, and Blake. There will be a graveside service held at Forest City Cemetery in South Portland on Friday October 2nd at 11 am.
