Obituary

Westbrook – Charlotte Elaine Pratt passed away following a short illness on September 17, 2014 in Portland, Maine. Born October 13th, 1923 in Portland, Maine to Clyde and Vera Jordan, she spent some of her childhood in Boston where her devotion to the Congregational Church first began to blossom.  She worked during WWII at Fort Williams, Cape Elizabeth, administering to the POW'S housed there.   She married the love of her life Robert Chester Pratt on December 21st, 1944 honeymooning in North Conway NH.  Together they proudly raised the four beautiful children who survive them.  Her life was based around family, friends and her faith. She approached the world with a kind heart and eyes full of wonder traveling throughout the US, Canada, and Europe with family and close friends.  With her impish humor, she joked that she would compile pictures of toilets taken during her travels into a book entitled "Thrones I Have Known". Later in life, she received a degree in art and religion from Goddard College which she used to great effect in her work with Prides Corner Church as she was instrumental in creating Paraments and banners, contributing to church fairs and bean suppers until illness made that impossible.  Throughout her battle with Parkinson's disease she maintained good humor.  When asked if she was angry at the lot she had been given, she replied "It takes too much energy to be angry". In the spirit of celebration of life, we offer the words of Rilke Before us great Death stands Our fate held close within his quiet hands. When with proud joy we lift Life's red wine To drink deep of the mystic shining cup And ecstasy through all our being leaps – Death bows his head and weeps. She is survived by her children Leslie, Kimberly, Kathleen, and William – which beyond their spouses includes five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.   Memorial donations may be made in her honor to the Prides Corner Congregational Church or your favorite charity.  Online condolences can be expressed at Blaisandhayfuneralhome.com
