Charles "Chipper" Louis Allen , 87, of Westbrook, died October 14, 2023 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after an 11 month battle with cancer. He was born on July 14, 1936 in Westbrook Maine, the son of Harold and Eliza "Liza" (St. Pierre) Allen. Chipper graduated from Westbrook High School, class of 1954. He married his high school sweetheart Mary Louise (Sweetsir) Allen on August 25, 1956 and they raised 5 children on their small farm in West Gorham. They attended the Oak Hill Chapel in Standish Maine where Chipper was a founding member and helped refurbish the building, redoing the roof, finding, and rehabbing the pews etc. He would also preach there and was a deacon. Oh how he loved Jesus and wanted to share His love with others. After divorce, Chipper married Sandra "Sandy" (Lachance) Allen on October 30, 1987. They moved to Florida in 1991 and after 26 years moved back to Maine in 2017 to be closer to family. Chipper and Sandy attended the Solid Rock Anglican Church of Winterhaven Florida and were very involved in that congregation for 26 years, making lifelong friends. Once back in Maine they attended the Stroudwater Christian Church in Portland and he deeply loved his Christian family there. Chipper loved automobiles and kept a list of all 42 cars and trucks that he owned during his lifetime. When his children got their first vehicles, he insisted on test driving each of them. He loved to golf and kept all of his score cards. He liked to play cards, watch Tom Brady, Freddy Couples, Rory McIlroy and was a member of the Lousy Bowling League in Westbrook. Being with his family and having them all together brought him great joy. He worked at S.D. Warren,( now SAPPI) for 24 years. He also worked for the Maine Turnpike Authority, Saunders Brothers in Westbrook and Schalamar Creek Golf Course in Lakeland Florida for 23 years. He was a member of the National Guard. Chipper was predeceased by his first wife Mary Allen, his adopted son Mark Brian Allen, his stepson Brian May, his brother Philip Allen and his half-sister Nancy Buzzell. He leaves behind his wife of almost 36 years, Sandy Allen, his daughter Roxanne (Allen) Montgomery, son Charles W. Allen and his wife Bernice Allen, daughter Edith (Allen)Tarbell and her fiancé Marcel Poirier, son Bennett Allen and his partner Beverly White, stepdaughter Tina (May) Pike and her husband Daniel Pike, his 9 Grandchildren; Jesse Edwards, Tyler Libby, Shannon (Allen) Mains, Amber (Allen) Stewart, Sean Duricko, Frederick "Duncan" Allen, Mark Allen, Kameron Greer, Brian Greer, his 11 great grandchildren; AJ Mains, Mary Mains, Kyle Mains, Alexis Libby, Leah Stewart, Lincoln Stewart, Stanley Allen, Wesley Allen, Hunter Allen, Garrett Allen, Colby Duricko. Visiting hour is Thursday, October 19th at 10:00 am with a memorial service following at 11am at the Stroudwater Christian Church, 1520 Westbrook Street, Portland , Rev. Robb Gossen officiating. Funeral arrangements were made through Dolby, Blais & Segee of Westbrook. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Stroudwater Christian Church.
