WESTBROOK- Cecile Drouin, 81, who for nearly 20 years was a creative catechist and mentor to fourth graders, died peacefully at Maine Medical Ctr. supported by her children for that journey on April 25, 2018.Cecile's most important job in life was raising her three children. She was the heart of her family, which she guided with grace and solid values. Cil was born on January 25, 1937 in Westbrook and educated within the their parochial school system, and she married Rene P. Drouin of Westbrook in 1957. Those who knew Ceclie described her as 'still rivers run deep', inwardly strong and confident yet outwardly kind and compassionate. While she enjoyed solitude, she had a gift for listening well and providing unique perspective to any exchange. Cil inherited her mother's determination and sense of humor, her father's quiet confidence and inner strength and she lovingly passed a mix of these qualities onto her children. Cil was a natural athlete, enjoying acrobatics and gymnastics in her youth. Her happiness was infectious, love endless, wit timely and dignity evident. She accepted the well-deserved 'mother of year' award with uncommon grace on two different occasions. In her time, Cecile seized every opportunity to bring life to those around her. She volunteered (birth-line, den mother, Eucharistic Minister, care giver and so much more) for most of her adult life. Cil survived cancer and a bone marrow transplant (thank you Dr. Del Case!), and was 25 years in remission. She enjoyed being well put together, but could have as much fun in a pair of jeans, having a backyard cookout with her family and friends, or in sweats enjoying games and tumbling with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Along with her parents, Cecile is predeceased by her husband, Rene P. Drouin, in 2013 and one brother, Laurent Lavigne in 1996. Cil is survived by her son John and his wife Millie of Litchfield, NH; daughter Roxanne and her husband David Gagne of Raymond, ME; daughter Paula and her husband Dorsey Mears of York, ME; six grandchildren spanning age 32 to 12: Courtney Rideout, Nicole Doyon, Cody Stults, Christopher Gagne, Zachary Drouin and Phoebe Drouin; and three great grandchildren Gracie, Landon and Lylah Rideout. Other surviving family members include sisters, Pauline LeBorgne, Lucile Leighton and Frances Gray; and brother, Paul Lavigne. Cil also leaves many dear friends, cousins, loving nieces and nephews.
