Obituary

STANDISH – Cecil Ellwood Ames, Sr., 84, died on May 8, 2018 at Maine Medical Center with his big loving family by his side. Cecil was born in Portland, on November 18, 1933, the son of Cecil M. and Linnie (Cole) Ames. Cecil was the proud father of his four children. He married Linda Chickeining in 1977, and together they spent over 40 happy years together. He was in the National Guards for over ten years, worked at Wellwoods 5 & 10 as the manager, and at Securitas & Hall Security before he was able to retire. Cecil was also a boy scout leader when his children were younger. Family was always important to him, and he was especially proud of his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. He could always be found at Forest Lake on Sundays waiting for the weekly family dinner. Cecil also supported his daughter by walking in the annual MS walk for the last 17 years. He enjoyed going out to eat, attending his local church, sitting on the Eastern Promenade, and working out in his woodshop. Cecil is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; children, Cecil "Skip" and wife Dianne of Springvale, Lauris and husband Jay of Windham, Bonnie and husband David of Salisbury, NC, and Gary and wife Deanne of Berwick, ME; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; and sisters, Lillian and Sharon. In addition to his parents, Cecil is deceased by 2 grandchildren; and his brothers, Charles, Jerry, and Arthur. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm, on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at the Windham Chapel of Dolby, Blais, & Segee, 434 River Rd., Windham, where a memorial service will be celebrated Monday, May 14, at 11:30am.
