Old Orchard Beach- Catherine Ruth Bradbury Erskine. Catherine passed away unexpectedly in the early afternoon of November 19, 2016 in Elmer, NJ; she was 76 years old. Catherine was born in Biddeford, ME the eldest and only daughter of James and Helen Bradbury. She had three younger brothers; James Jr., Elwin and Glen. Catherine graduated from So. Portland High School in 1958 and from Peter Bent Brigham School of Nursing Boston, MA in 1961. She married the love of her life, Paul Erskine, on Sept 9, 1961. Catherine's love for God, adventuresome and fun-loving spirit inspired all those around her during 29 years of service with World Venture Missions from 1975-2004. Catherine served as a nurse, teacher and dorm mother at International Christian Academy in Bouake Cote D'Ivoire, a field treasurer in Brazil and a mentor to women in North Africa. Catherine was an active member of First Baptist Church in Portland, ME where she served in women's ministry and on the Outreach and Discipleship Commission. Catherine enjoyed hiking Mt Washington, walking on the beach, hunting for shells and sea glass, reading and spending time with friends. She was particularly passionate about spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James Bradbury Jr. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her husband Paul, brothers Elwin and Glen Bradbury, children Mark, Lisa (Wenzel), Kim (John Vercoe) and David (Kim Oss); grandchildren Crystal, Justin, Joshua, Bryan, Tyler, Kristen, Kendal, Katherine, Madeline, Liliana, Trinity, Levi and great-grandchildren Amaya, Justine and Jaron. Viewing will be at 10am Friday, November 25 with a celebration of life to follow at 11 at First Baptist Church, Canco Rd. Portland, ME.
