Obituary

Carlton Ramsay, 84, of Gorham, passed away peacefully after a brief illness surrounded by family on February 5, 2022. Carl resided in Gorham with his wife of 59 years, Janice. He was best known to many friends and neighbors as an all-around handyman, fixing anything from televisions to small engines. He had a knack for inventing and created many at-home devices from baseball games to generators, and could be found tinkering in his basement on projects at his workbench. He also enjoyed the outdoors a lot, spending many hours in his yard raking, mowing, and snow blowing, taking care of his own yard right up until his passing. Carl was active in the Boy Scouts of America and served as a scout leader. He was involved with Camp Hynds and the Gorham community, being the coach of many of his sons' Little League teams out of Little Falls, and was also the coach of his daughter's softball teams. When he wasn't doing that, you could find him at home taking care of the backyard pool and cleaning it for all of his family and friends to enjoy during the summer. Carl started the first of many elementary school Halloween haunted houses, creating homemade costumes for the kids, and providing an opportunity for them to trick or treat while indoors for a "scary" experience in a safe environment. He also enjoyed the Friday evenings he spent running the local bingo hall in South Windham's Rod and Gun Club. He loved to camp a lot, taking his wife and kids to many state parks when they were young, and then finally making it across the US with his wife to see a little of all the different states, where they especially enjoyed the western attractions. Carl served time in the Air Force as an electronics specialist, and traveled to Venezuela, Chile, and Turkey before marrying Janice and starting his family. During his career as a technician, he was able to take his wife on several trips to the Caribbean, Haiti, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. In his downtime Carl enjoyed watching westerns on television with his wife, and reading many western books while kicked back in his recliner. He had a love for photography, and spent many hours on his computer researching genealogy and putting together his family tree. He is survived by his wife Janice Ramsay, his son Kenneth Ramsay and his wife Nancy, his daughter Carlene Ramsay, and his son Keith Ramsay and his wife Roxanne. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Kayla Ramsay, Ashlyn Ramsay, Hannah Simon and her husband Johnny, Jacoby Ramsay, and his great grandchild, Rhett Simon. He was predeceased by a son Jeffrey Ramsay in 1988. Visiting hours for Carl will be held at Dolby, Blais & Segee Funeral Home's Windham Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham, Maine on Monday, Feb. 14, 2022 from 4:00pm-6:00pm. There will be masks provided at the door but will not be required. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Gorham Recreation Department, 75 South Street, Gorham, Maine 04038 to the attention of Cindy Hazelton.
