Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Carla Janice Crean announces her passing on November 7, 2025. Carla J. Crean (Shaw) was born on October 13, 1954 in Portland, Maine to parents Helen J. Shaw and Irving L. Shaw. As the middle child of two older brothers and two younger sisters, she spent her youth growing up in Portland. She frequently visited Willard Beach and loved helping at the family Christmas tree stand in Deering Oaks, until moving to Windham, Maine, where she thrived in the community. She is predeceased by her parents, Helen J. Shaw and Irving L. Shaw, as well as her beloved husband, William Crean. Family was the most important thing to Carla, and her loss is felt beyond measure to them. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Jennifer Avery and Taylor Cofran, her two sisters Sheila Parker and Nancy Shaw Doyle, and their husbands Stephen Parker and Thomas Doyle. Her brothers, Gary Shaw and Wayne Shaw, and Gary's wife Cindy Shaw, her aunt Nancy Larrivee, and uncle Gerald Shaw. Many loving nieces and nephews: Amanda Doyle Holivan and her husband Cory Holivan, Robert Shaw and wife Suna Shaw, Alyssa Doyle, Tomi Doyle and Tonya Doyle Aceto, Melissa Parker and Jessica Parker, Danielle Shaw, Kyle Shaw, Kristi Shaw, and Keely Shaw, Amy Fickett and Richard Fickett, and many great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. As a young adult, she took great pride in helping run her family diner, Rays Diner, in Windham, Maine. She continued her work in customer service in Windham, working for Downeast Energy, Getty, and Goodwill. She then met her future husband, William Crean. They fell in love quickly, and their love for each other was remarkable. They eventually opened their own store, C & Bs, and they married on Valentine's day in 2000. Carla's love and advocation for animals was like no other. From her own many pets throughout her life, including Alex, her American Eskimo that she adored, to her grand doggies and kitties, Tuukka and Gretchen, and Nugget and Tanner. Her love even extended to wildlife, like the birds and deer found in her backyard, where you would often find her feeding them. She loved reading, and it was likely you would find her with a book in hand. She loved dancing and cooking, and over celebrating holidays. She went above and beyond for her daughters, not only on holidays but everyday. One of her favorite holidays was Independence Day, a day the whole family gathered for a day of reunion at Nason's Beach, a long standing tradition of her families. Visitation will be held at Dolby, Blais and Segee in Windham, Maine on December 12, 2025 at 11:00 am, followed by a service at 12:00 pm. There will be an after service Gathering at the The Old Robie School at 668 Gray Road Gorham, ME 04038 from from 1:30pm - 5:00 pm . While Carla loved flowers very much, if you do not wish to send flowers, please consider a donation in her name to Friends of Feral Felines at 651 Forest Ave Portland, Maine at https://feralfelines.net/donations/ A private family burial will take place in the spring at Hillside Cemetery, Gorham.
