Carl Campbell Robinson, 87, of Standish, died Oct. 28, 2014 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. He was born to the late George and Edith (Laverty) Robinson on Aug. 16, 1927. Carl married his wife and partner of 55 years, Elaine (Bragdon) Robinson in Westbrook in 1959. Carl was educated in Westbrook schools and later graduated from the Chicago Technical Institute. He served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Pickins (APA 190), USS Columbia (CL56), USS Chandeleur (AV10) and USS Minos (ARL14). When Carl returned to civilian life, his main employment was in the carpentry and building industries including time in family business of O.G.K. Robinson. As a Westbrook High School teacher, he led students in building a full scale residential home on a private lot. Believed to be one of first of such projects in this country, this project helped the school's vocational program fund upgrades in building and facilities. Carl was a licensed radio operator maintaining the call letters KA1KAX. He had a lifelong interest in music and was both a pianist and vocalist. Carl was member of Stephen W. Manchester Post #62 of the American Legion in Westbrook. Carl and Elaine enjoyed travel upon their retirement including two trips to Costa Rica and wintering in Florida the past 20 years. Carl was predeceased by his sister, Betty Rossborough of Chipley, Florida. He is survived by his wife, Elaine. Other survivors include their daughter, Lynn Larsen of South Portland; daughter Nancy O'Donnell and son-in-law Louis of Houston; grandsons Patrick and Evan and brother-in-law Gordon Rossborough of Chipley, Florida. The family will never forget the compassionate companionship Carl received in last week of his life from dedicated professionals at Gibson Pavilion/5th Floor of Maine Medical Center and Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. Visiting will be on Monday November 3 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM followed by a service at 12:00 PM at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
