WESTBROOK- Bruce Domenico Vanni,74, of Westbrook, died peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by family March 14, 2017. He was born on December 1, 1942, the only son of Leo and Ferne (Buntlin) Vanni. He grew up in Peterborough, New Hampshire where he attended schools locally, graduating from Peterborough High School in the class of 1960. Bruce continued his education at New Hampshire College, receiving a Bachelor's degree; he also served in the Army Reserves for six years. On September 10, 1966, he married Judith Barber and together they made their home in Westbrook, raising two sons, Eric and Brent. Bruce was an active family man who devoted many years to coaching his sons' sports teams. He also enjoyed creating memories on family vacations, including annual trips to Pittsburg, NH and Moosehead Lake, as well as spending time at the family ski-house at Sunday River. A true outdoorsman, Bruce enjoyed fly-fishing, hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, ice skating, boating and kayaking on the pond behind his property. Bruce spent his working career as a Pharmaceutical Representative for Upjohn & Pharmacia where he was respected and recognized as an outstanding salesman. Bruce excelled in balancing his career and family, keeping the well-being of his family of the utmost importance. Family time was very special to Bruce, or "Papa". This meant being there for every celebration, activity or event for all of his children and grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease and joke with his friends and family. He always loved a good laugh. A man of faith, he was a longtime member of the Highland Lake Congregational church in Westbrook where he was Chairman of Trustees and enjoyed gathering with the church crew on Saturdays in preparation for bean suppers. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Judith Vanni of Westbrook; sons, Eric Vanni and his wife Ingrid of Cumberland, and Brent Vanni and his wife Jenna of Portland; grandchildren, Zach, Kyra, Maren and Reid; and a sister-in-law, Linda Barber of Cape Neddick. Bruce's family would like to thank all of his compassionate doctors, nurses, caregivers, and support staff who took such great care of him throughout his battle with multiple myeloma. A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 5pm to 7pm at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham, ME 04062. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, March 22 at 11am at the Highland Lake Congregational Church, 1303 Bridgton Rd., Westbrook, ME 04092. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bruce's name may be made to the Highland Lake Congregational Church.
