Obituary

Windham – Brian W. Luce, 68, of Windham, passed away peacefully, on June 7, 2016 at his home with his family by his side, after battling a rare form of cancer. He was born in Bath, ME, on August 17, 1947, son of Hubert and Mildred Luce. He graduated from Bath schools & USM with a teaching certificate in Industrial Arts. Brian taught Industrial Arts to grades 5-8 at GNG & Pennell Schools. He married Amerise "Risa" Bourque of Bath in late 1967. After retiring from 26 years of teaching, he finished his working career as an Independent Master Plumber. He was an enthusiastic coach of boys baseball & girls basketball at GNG for a number of years. Brian felt it was a privilege to be able to coach such a good group of student-athletes. Upon retiring from coaching, he went on to umpire local high school boys' baseball. Brian was an avid fan of all New England professional sports teams, NASCAR, photography (went by the nickname "Kenny Kodak") & played racquetball for a number of years. He enjoyed spending time with his dynamic family of three daughters, 5 granddaughters and one step grandson. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Risa; daughters Katie and husband Steve Lizotte of Pownal, Kelly Leith of Tampa, FL and Karen Luce of Windham; grand-daughters Morgan, Amber, Kaya, Riley, Kamryn and step grandson Forrest. He is survived by his sister Bonnie, her husband Bob Merrill of Windham. Nieces, Candy Allen and her husband Lee, Bobbi Gagnon and her husband Mike and nephew Tim Merrill. Special thanks to Arlene O'Rourke and all of the caregivers at the Maine Cancer Center in Scarborough and Jared Walker, nurse at Maine Medical Center, as well as the team at Hospice of southern Maine. A memorial service will be held at 5 pm on Saturday, June 11 at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham. A period of visitation will be held from 3pm until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted to the American Cancer Society, P O Box 22478, Oklahoma City OK, 73123 or to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 US Route One, Scarborough ME 04074.
