POLAND – Blaine "Joe" L. Conley, passed away peacefully at his residence in Poland on July 29, 2024. Blaine was born May 5, 1930, in South Portland, the son of the late Coleman L. and Christine (Loveitt) Conley. Blaine attended and graduated from South Portland High School. After graduation, Blaine served with the U.S. Coast Guard on the East Wind Ice Breaker. Once out of the service Blaine married Sylvia A. Webster, they were married 6 weeks shy of 65 years, raising their family in Westbrook prior to moving to Poland in 1987. Blaine was proud of the red, white and blue and a farmer at heart. He was an avid hunter and loved to fish with friends and family. He belonged to the Royal River Rod & Gun Club in New Gloucester and was involved in the local Poland library. Blaine loved to converse with people and excelled in storytelling. He enjoyed long rides in the country later in life, preferably chauffeured. He enjoyed anything pertaining to the outdoors; hunting, fishing, gardening, riding in the side by side, and sitting in the woods past dark in hopes to catch a glimpse of a deer, bear, or moose, of course to add to his story collection. He also enjoyed supervising the haying fields. Aside from his passion for the outdoors, Blaine loved a good home cooked meal as well as homemade baked goods. In addition to his parents, Blaine was predeceased by his loving wife Sylvia, along with his brothers and sisters. Blaine is survived by his daughters; Julie (Conley) Segal and her husband Alan, and Gail Conley; his sons; Timothy Conley and his wife Sandra, and Stephen Conley. As well as three grandchildren; Amy Smith, Luke Segal, and Jessica Segal. Two great grandchildren; Mason Maines and Warren Segal, and two more on the way. Blaine was lovingly known as Dad, Papa, and great grandpa Joe by many including step grandchildren and great grandchildren. Papa had a special bond with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He always had a joke or a story to share. He would take them out for rides after Sunday dinner and explore the dirt roads. Papa showed compassion for all animals and nature. Visitations will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 3pm-5pm with a Memorial Service to follow at 5pm at Dolby, Blais, and Segee Windham Chapel, 434 River Road Windham, ME 04062. An interment will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 10:00am at Highland Cemetery, 352 Megquier Hill Road Poland, Maine 04274.
