Westbrook, Beverley Tenney Swett, 90, of Westbrook, Maine, died September 6, 2016 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, with her family by her side. She is survived by her 8 children: Diane and husband Barry Atwood, of Gorham, Maine; Debi and husband Bill Vondras, of Gorham, Maine; Cathy and husband Peach Frederick, of Warren, Maine; Bob and wife Toni, of Gainesville, Florida; Bruce and wife Claire, of Omaha, Nebraska; Mary Springer of Stuart, Florida; Patrick and partner Erik Moriel, of San Francisco, California; and Becky Shaw of Westbrook, Maine. Beverley is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Beverley was born to the late Joanna Hood and Albert G. Tenney, August 12, 1926, in Portland, Maine and had 2 sisters: the late Jacqueline Wallace and the late Delores Verge Hadley. One summer while visiting her favorite place, her mother's family farm in North Leeds, Maine, she met her future husband, the late Lt. Col. Robert A. Swett. Several Army bases including Germany, Virginia, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Thailand, were home for them and their family. Throughout her life she was a scout leader, taught Catechism, was active with the Family Crisis Services, worked as an elevator operator, also worked for the U.S. Census Bureau and Barrow's Greenhouses and sold Avon door to door. Beverley was a long time active member of the former Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Westbrook. She loved a bargain, with garage sales becoming a favorite hobby. Above all, her family was the most important thing in her life and she considered her 8 children her "precious jewels." The family would like to thank the caring staff at Avita of Stroudwater, where Beverley lived the final years of her life. Visiting hours will take place Sunday, September 11, from 4 to 7 PM at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church Street, Westbrook. A Funeral Service will take place Monday at 10 AM at St. Anthony's Parish, Westbrook. Burial will follow at St. Hyacinth's Cemetery. Online condolences can be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com In lieu of flowers the family is suggesting a donation in Beverley's name to Hospice of Southern Maine.
