WESTBROOK - Betty Darkis, age 90, of Westbrook passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at the South Portland Nursing Home. She was born to Fermin and Cresensia Candelaria in Concho, AZ on March 31, 1927. She was predeceased by 9 siblings: James, Reyes, Greg, Rudy, Paul, Sally, Alma, Maryann, and Fema. Betty was also predeceased by her loving husband, George Darkis in 2009. Betty married George in 1949 and came to live in Maine. Her life was centered around her family, church, and friends. She was a member of the Westbrook Warren Congregational Church and served on many committees, working on church suppers for 40 years. Betty was a Past Worthy Matron on Mizpah Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and baking. She is survived by her daughter, Kim Darkis; grandsons Eben and Daniel Baker; and their father, Jay Baker. She is also survived by brother in law and sister in law, Donald and Lois Darkis; niece, Jessie Darkis; nephew and niece John and Stacy Darkis; niece and nephew Cheryl and Neal Brogdon; and a number of other relatives and great family friends. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the Westbrook Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St, Westbrook, on Sunday December 10, 2017, at 1:00 pm.
