WINDHAM - A very special person entered eternal life peacefully on January 20, 2018 with her family at her side. Mrs. Beryl Regina (Burnell) Brooks, nicknamed "Bea" enjoyed a fulfilled life of 94 years. She was born and raised in Scarborough, ME on March 21, 1923, daughter of William and Harriet (MacVane) Burnell. She often shared fond memories of the Burnell Camps and Restaurant they owned throughout her childhood. After high school graduation, she worked for the Boston and ME Railroad for several years. She then married the late Frederick Thibeau and was a devoted homemaker for her children and several foster children. She later married Roger Brooks and they resided in Standish. Together, they camped and travelled to Florida in their RV, residing in Ocala, Florida for many years. . Bea always focused on her family's well-being. She loved spending time with people, to whom her great sense of humor brought much happiness. She truly cared, and her empathy made those who knew her feel strong. She placed her arms around everyone and even prayed for strangers. She also had a great compassion for animals. She had a special place in her heart for her dog, Beau, who was her devoted pet in later years. Her love and devotion never faltered. She was a communicant of the Congregational faith and a gold star VFW member. She is survived by her husband Roger Brooks, and her spirit is carried on by her four children: Linda Manos (and fiancé Eddie) of Windham, Dennis Thibeau (and wife Anita) of Saco, Sue Gamash (and husband Mike) of Old Orchard Beach, and Pat Wheeler (and husband Paul) of Greene; and one sibling, Douglas Burnell (and wife Carmen) of Eliot. She has a large extended family, comprised of 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; 3 step children and their families; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Her family is grateful for the caring staff at Ledgewood Manor in Windham who helped comfort her during this final stage of her long and memorable life. They would also like to thank Hospice of Southern Maine for their kind and compassionate care. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
