WINDHAM – Bernita Joyce Murphy, 71, passed away on September 10, 2021 at a Portland hospital. Bernita Murphy and her twin brother, Bernard "Neddie" Doughty were born in Portland on November 29, 1949 to Elizabeth Pierson and Bernard Doughty. She lived in New Glouster and Windham until she married John W. Murphy in 1968. From there she resided in Gorham for the rest of her life. Bernita and John had one child, Christa McNally. Her hobbies were bottle-digging, gardening, canning, spending time at the family lake property, and Tom Jones concerts. She worked at Saunders Brothers, Emery Waterhouse, Ames, and Target. She was predeceased, her twin brother, Bernard "Neddie" Doughty"; mother, Elizabeth Libby; her two dads, Bernard Doughty and Ralph Libby, Sr.; her husband, John Murphy; her daughter, Christa McNally; sister, June "Jody" Brown; brothers, Bryan Doughty, Donald Libby; brother-in-law, Lester Snow; and sister-in-law, Doris Libby. She is survived by her granddaughter, Cassandra "Cassie" Palmer of Steep Falls; grandson, Nathaniel "Nate" Snow of Hollis; brothers, David Libby of Maryland, Ralph Libby, Jr. of Limington, Leslie Libby of Limington, Alan Doughty of Auburn, and Duane Doughty of New Glouster,; sisters, Sharon Snow of Buxton, Tonya Dube and her husband, Allen of Hiram, Lorelei "Lori" Michaud and her husband, Greg, Sr. of Hollis, and Linda Doughty of Auburn, Glouster; step-mother, Madeline Doughty of Auburn; and many nephews and nieces. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Smith Cemetery, Windham.
