Bernd Dieter Nowak—Windham—Bernd Dieter Nowak died Thursday, December 17, 2015. Bernie, as he was known, was born July 7, 1945 in Berlin, Germany, the son of Karl and Margarete (Lorenz) Nowak. They immigrated to the United States in 1958 settling in the Boston area. Bernie attended area schools and found work at Brigham Hospital in Boston where he met his wife, Judith Douglas. They were married on April 11. 1970. They enjoyed 45 years together. They made their home in Maine. God blessed them with two sons, Scott and Matthew. Bernie worked most of his life for the Portland Pipeline Company. Bernie served his country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Bernie enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends. He was faithful to attend to all of Judy's needs. He was quick-witted, a good story teller, and had a ready smile. Despite his struggles, he remained a bright spot for those who knew him. His presence and cheer will be greatly missed. Bernie was predeceased by his parents, his wife and son, Matthew. Bernie leaves behind a son, Scott Nowak and his wife Jessica, a grandson, Osiris and a granddaughter, Briana Nowak, his church family, and close friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the Highland Cliff Advent Christian Church, Highland Cliff Road, Windham. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Highland Cliff Advent Christian Church, 96 Highland Cliff Road, Windham, Maine 04062.
