Barbara P. Miller Barbara Patricia Miller, a life-long resident of Westbrook, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2013, with family at her side. Barbara entered the Maine Medical Center on December 23, 2012, for treatment of a rare aliment. She was born August 7, 1927, in Portland, Maine, to Mary (Lewis) and David Miller Sr. She attended schools in Westbrook, graduating as an honor student from Westbrook High School on June 15, 1945. Even before her graduation, she was hired by S D Warren Paper Company in Westbrook, Maine. She held a variety of positions at S D Warren, culminating as the executive secretary for the mill manager. She was a member of the S D Warren forty-year club, retiring January 1, 1988. After high school, Barbara went to secretarial school and was active in the National Secretaries Association. She was an officer for the Maine Secretaries Association and greatly enjoyed attending a number of national conventions. She was an outstanding secretary with exceptional organizational skills. A resident at Larrabee Heights for the last 20 years, she was active on the Larrabee Heights Resident Association, serving as their vice-president and at-large for many years. She valued her friends at the Heights and their weekly meals at local restaurants. Barbara also was a member of the Eastern Star, Mizpah Chapter. Earlier in her life, she enjoyed traveling and knitting. She knitted many sweaters and mittens for her nephews, niece, and friends. Barbara was also an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She maintained and passed on the family Christmas tradition of baking Scotch shortbread and Empire cookies. She was noted for her beautifully wrapped Christmas gifts, and, for the younger recipients, gifts that were a puzzle to open. Barbara embraced computer technology and was an avid internet user. Her recent Christmas wish list included an Apple I pad and anything chocolate.
