WINDHAM - Barbara E McPhee age 87 passed away on June 26, 2022 after a brief illness. Barbara was born and raised in Standish, Maine. She was the daughter of Arnold and Ruth Ward. Barbara had a lot of tragic loss in her life. She was a role model of how to manage grief and still love and enjoy life to the fullest. She loved being a mother and homemaker. She cooked, baked, sewed, crocheted and knitted. Her home was filled with children. In addition to her own, her house was the central gathering place for many children in the neighborhood as well as nieces and nephews and later grandchildren. Barbara had many hobbies. She loved fishing. She would suddenly stop what she was doing and say "I hear the trout calling". She would then go to a local brook and come home with her legal limit. She taught many children how to fish over the years. She also loved to hunt. She loved cribbage. Her home was always open for family or friends to drop by and play a few games. She was active in local cribbage clubs. The highlight for her was going to Reno, Nevada to play in the championship of champions tournament. Barbara was a collector of dolls. For years she repaired and sold dolls as well as antique glass at flea markets with her long-term partner Bob. She loved shopping for bargains and frequently gifted her finds to those she loved. She was an avid reader. She shared her passions with her family. Barbara is pre-deceased by her parents, her siblings, Eleanor Lane, Earl Ward, Hazel Parratto, Patricia Almlov and David Ward. By her children, Kenneth Harrington Jr., Gail Newton and Johnny Pendleton. Two husbands Norman Newton and Henry (Red) McPhee and long-term partner George (Bob) Hayer.
