Obituary

Barbara Marden Landry, 96 Barbara Marden Landry, a resident of Yarmouth for more than 60 years, passed away Monday, July 31st at Falmouth By the Sea after a period of declining health. She was born on March 20, 1921 in Providence, Rhode Island, the daughter of Frank Oliver and Mary Dennison Marden. She grew up in South Portland and Rumford, Maine and was a graduate of Stevens High School, Rumford, class of 1938. Barbara was employed by the Chevrolet Division of General Motors first in Portland, ME and then in Boston, MA. While in Boston, she reconnected with an old Rumford friend, Theodore A. (Ted) Landry. They were married in June 1946 and moved to Houlton, ME. Following Ted's untimely death, Barbara moved her young family to Yarmouth in 1951 where she was a PTA volunteer, a cub scout den mother, and a lifetime member and past president of the Fortnightly Club. In 1959 Barbara went to work as the Yarmouth reporter for the Portland Press Herald and retired in 1984 as the editor of the Home and Family section of the Maine Sunday Telegram. She then began a second career as a travel consultant at the Maine Tourism facility in Yarmouth, retiring again in 2002. She was predeceased by a son, Dennison M. Landry in 1998. She is survived by her son, Theodore (Terry) Landry and his wife Susan, two grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be private.
