Barbara Ruth (Jones) Grimes, age 82, passed away on January 31, 2015, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine, after a brave battle with ovarian cancer. She was born in Allison Park, Pennsylvania on November 8, 1932 to the late William Herbert and Dorothy (Westhoff) Jones. Before moving to Maine in 2013, Barbara lived in Connecticut with her late husband and love of her life James Grimes, who passed away June 8, 2008. Barbara is survived by her three daughters, Sheri Simmons of Castle Valley, UT and her partner Allison VanLonkhuyzen, Becky Lee Simmons and her partner Winnie Moody of Scarborough, ME, and Lynn Simmons and her partner Sally Gore of Worcester, MA, as well as her two stepdaughters Cynthia Grimes of Gainesville, VA, and Susan Monaco of Staten Island, NY. And, not to be forgotten, her dear friends at the Woods at Canco in Portland, Maine, her long-time friends in Connecticut and Pittsburgh, and her beloved kitties Rosie and Baxter. A graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA, class of 1953, Barbara genuinely cared for people and enjoyed her career as a registered nurse. She also enjoyed traveling, painting, sewing, playing cards, especially bridge, and gardening. Barbara had a love of the ocean and beach, shopping, and socializing. She always had an uncanny sense of adventure and made friends easily. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Cancer Community Center and Hospice of Southern Maine's Gosnell Memorial Hospice House: 11 Hunnewell Road, Scarborough, ME 04074. We will always remember the extreme kindness and care that the Cancer Community Center, the Hospice Home Team, and the Gosnell House staff gave to our Barbara and her family. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Online condolences can be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com
