Barbara N. Hillock Griffin, 97 Scarborough, Maine January 30, 1928 – July 30, 2025 Barbara N. Hillock Griffin, a cherished member of the Scarborough community, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025, at the age of 97. Born in Gorham, Maine, on January 30, 1928, she was the daughter of Adrian and Beatrice (Towle) Hillock, founders of Artesian Well Drilling of Scarborough. She was a graduate of Scarborough High School, Class of 1946. Barbara dedicated her life to caring for her family and serving others. Over the years, she wore many hats—from house cleaning and laundry services to working concessions at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. She was especially known for her legendary baked bean suppers and homemade brown bread, which she lovingly prepared for the North Scarborough Grange and countless local organizations. Her commitment to community service was unwavering. Barbara was a lifelong member of the North Scarborough Grange, holding positions including master, secretary, and caretaker for an incredible 82 years. She was also an active member of the Cumberland County Pomona, the Maine State Grange, and the National Grange. Her faith guided her throughout her life, and she was a devoted member of the South Gorham Baptist Church. She served as president of the Missionary Society and secretary of the Band of Workers, roles she held with deep devotion and grace. Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband, James L. Griffin; her siblings Marion, Margaret, Dorothy, Judith, Frances, Kenneth, and Cary; grandson Raymond Thibodeau Jr and son in law Linwood Varney. She is survived by her children: Martha Varney, Adrian Griffin, and Beatrice Griffin; her sister Charlotte Douglas; brothers William Hillock and wife Ginny, and Roger Hillock and wife Linda. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Timothy Thibodeau, Frederick Thibodeau and partner Debbi Rawding, Erica Bryant, Sarah Boote, Jeremy Locke and wife Jennifer, and Adriane Willette and partner Cody Winde. Her great-grandchildren - Kayla, TJ, Olivia, Brooke, Jacob, Jaiden, and Annabelle—and great-great-granddaughter Shaylee will carry forward her legacy of warmth and generosity. Barbara's life was a beautiful reflection of kindness, tradition, and service. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Visitation will be held at Dolby, Blais & Segee Funeral Home, 434 River Road, Windham on Thursday, August 14th, 2025 from 10-11. Service at 11:00 followed by burial at Brooklawn Cemetery.
