Obituary

Barbara Anne Libby, 85, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the Barron Center. Barb was born the daughter of Leland R. and Edel (Biltoff) Taggart in Westbrook, Maine on October 13, 1932. She attended schools in Westbrook and was a 1952 graduate of Westbrook High School. As a young girl, Barb loved swimming and diving and was a lifeguard instructor in Westbrook with "Paddy" Davan. Barb was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church as a child and was confirmed there. Later, she attended the Methodist Church in Westbrook and did volunteer work. In her eighties, she returned to Trinity Lutheran. In 1953, Barb began working at Sebago Moccasin. In 1969, while working in the Sale's Department, Rene Morneau asked Barb for assistance with the morning mail, later adding the duties of order processor. Rene, who was an avid stamp collector, introduced Barb to the art of stamp collection, which she thoroughly enjoyed for many years, as well as a postcard collection given to her by her uncle Laurence Taggart. Barb loved to travel and did so for many years. She was also passionate about gardening and loved to record the history of her family and also the history of Westbrook for her nieces and nephews. Four books went to the Westbrook Historical Society. Barb, who is of Danish descent, accompanied her mother to Denmark in 1966. It was the first trip back to Denmark for her mother in 43 years. On the seven-week trip, she thoroughly enjoyed meeting her Danish relatives. Barb lived with her parents for many years and in 1976 married Hank Libby. After Hank's death, dear friends John and Jackie Skvorak welcomed Barb into their home for many holiday gatherings, which was cherished by Barb. Barb was also predeceased by three brothers, Laurence P. Taggart, Danny H. Taggart and Raymond Bruce and his wife Francis, and a sister, Priscilla Allen. Although she did not have any children of her own, she dearly loved her nieces and nephews; Maureen Pennington, Catherine Taggart, Scott Taggart, William and Stephen Taggart. She also leaves a great nephew Jacob Taggart, who was very special to her. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June, 28, 2018, at 11am at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 612 Main St., Westbrook. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Stroudwater St., Westbrook.
