Arthur O. Caron, formerly of Gorham, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough. He was born in Westbrook on July 13, 1919, the son of Joseph and Mary (Gagne) Caron. He was raised in Westbrook where he lived until moving to Gorham in 1985. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in South West Harbor, Maine, the Maine National Guard, and later in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Arthur worked at the Dana Warp Mill for 19 years before taking a job at S.D. Warren, where he worked for 27 years before retiring. He was a member of the American Legion Post #62. Arthur enjoyed growing flowers and gardening. He also had a passion for woodworking. He was predeceased by his first wife Elva Caron in 1983; his siblings Irene Babb, Laura May, Albert Caron, Robert Caron, Donald Caron, Leo Caron, Rita Figucia, and Amie Caron. He is survived by his wife Charlotte ( Salisbury) Caron of Gorham; his children Judith and Durwood Graffam of Zephyrhills, FL/Gorham, Joyce and Norwood Sanborn of East Baldwin, Jan and Peter Hebert of Westbrook, Sharon and James Gregoire of Gorham, and Catherine Wilson of Falmouth; his brothers Lawrence of Westbrook and Thomas of Portland ;his grandchildren Ricky, Robby, Ronny, and Ryan Irish, Pamela Colburn, Jason Turgeon, Greg Post, Allison Ayer, Amanda and James Gregoire, Justin Irish, Nicholas and Desiree' Cofran; fourteen great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 PM Wednesday, April 13, at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 AM Thursday, April 14 at St. Anne's Church. Interment with military honors will take place Thursday, April 21, at Noon at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
