Archie Manoogian 1930-2013 Archie Manoogian of Westbrook passed away peacefully in his home from complications of congestive heart failure, cared for by his dedicated wife, family, and the remarkable care of Visiting Nurses Sarah, Keith, and Pam over the past 8 months. Archie served in the U.S. Marines and was in active combat in the Korean War from 1949-52, including the decisive battle of the Chosin Reservoir. He was proud to serve his country, having been a first generation American and the son of proud immigrant parents Virginia and George that survived the Armenian Genocide. He followed his service to his country by being the first member of his family to attend college. He earned his degree in Education from the University of Maine in 1957. A lifelong teacher and coach, Archie was a positive influence in the lives of hundreds of young people, whether under his direct tutelage or simply during a game of pick-up basketball. One of his many enduring achievements was coaching the Westbrook girls basketball team to four straight State Championships from 1978-1981, including a 76 game winning streak. Having been an athlete himself, Archie with his wife Marlene never missed his grandsons' football and basketball games and swim meets, and they themselves participated in several Senior Games competitions. In his later years, he enjoyed lobstering on Casco Bay while providing his family with a special summertime retreat on Little Diamond Island, inspired by memories of his own parents' cottage on nearby Peaks Island. Most of all, Archie was a dedicated provider for his family and a proud patriot and patriarch. He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Marlene, whose tireless loving care and commitment to keep him at home serve as an inspiration to her family. He is also survived by daughter Melissa and grandson Marcus; daughter Melinda and husband Tim and grandsons Patrick, Shaun, and Kalen with wife Sarah and great grandson Calvin; daughter Marsce and husband Rudy and grandson Josh with wife Casey and great granddaughter Layla and grandson Greg with wife Shaylene; son Dean and partner Scott; and son Daron and husband Shawn. Archie is predeceased by son Dana and grandson Jared who his family is sure will be welcoming him in the next life.
