Obituary

Portland-Anne Blake Doyle, 91, passed away on January 10, 2019 in Portland. The daughter of Thomas and Theresa (Drinan) Blake, she was born in Quincy Massachusetts, on July 28, 1927. Anne Blake moved to Cape Elizabeth ME, where she spent many happy summers with her sisters at the beach. Her family moved to Yarmouth ME and she attended North Yarmouth Academy. After high school she served her country in the United States Navy. While in the Navy she worked in the Pentagon, and also attended George Washington University. In 1955 she married Dick Doyle, and Anne and Dick raised their family in Portland ME. Anne enjoyed entertaining family and friends on a regular basis. Her annual lobster stew served on Christmas Eve was a much loved Doyle family tradition. A devote Roman Catholic, Anne was very involved in the St. Patrick's Church community. She served as the President of the Women's Council, and worked in the rectory for many years. Over the course of almost 50 years of marriage Anne and Husband Dick shared many "Lucy and Ricky", zany comical moments, demonstrating that "opposites do attract". Their shared sense of humor kept them together. Anne adored cats, her most beloved being Neddy, also known then as the Mayor of Kenilworth Street. In her free time Anne enjoyed golf, bridge, a good joke, and a good Manhattan (not necessarily in that order). As cousin Chuck said "She had a good ride". She was predeceased by her husband Richard "Dick" Doyle She is survived by her daughters Joanne Switz, and her husband Randall of Charlottesville VA, and Nancy Doyle of Cape Elizabeth, her sons Peter Doyle, of Portland, and Timothy Doyle, of San Francisco CA, and her grandsons Samuel and Henry Switz. Her family wishes to thank the staff of the Barron Center for the loving care they provided Anne over the course of the past year. A memorial service will be held and announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee.
