Gorham, Windham, and Chesapeake, VA Anna M. McCubrey, 73, one of the kindest and most loving people in the world went to be with Jesus on April 14, 2016 at 6:25 a.m. Anna will be remembered for her infectious laugh along with her kind and generous heart. She was born in Massawa, Eritrea on December 25, 1942 to Mebret-Haile and Antanasio Papaioannou. She proudly moved to America in 1972, where she resided in Maine until she moved to Virginia with her daughter, Loredana, in 2015. Anna always loved to lend a sympathetic ear and to cook for those she loved. She gave endlessly, loved deeply, and never asked anyone for anything. She was well versed in seven different languages. Anna gave generously of her time and abilities by always opening her home to a person in need. She made every holiday and gathering special, and she never missed a milestone. In this way, she left her mark on the hearts of many. Her great wisdom and humorous personality will never be forgotten. Her strength is inspiring to so many. She was passionate about cooking, music, painting, rummy, crocheting, and dancing! The most important thing to her in life was honoring family and living a life that was pleasing to God. She was also known endearingly as Nonna, Nannie, Crazy Nana, Momma-No, Big Sister, Auntie, and Our Friend. She is so beloved and will be surely missed. Anna was a strong woman of faith who stood on her beliefs and always proudly said, "through God all things are possible." She knew exactly where she was going!
