SCARBOROUGH - Heaven gained another angel! Ann L. Johnson, devoted Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Aunt, 89, of Scarborough passed away on October 22, 2023 at 3 am. She was born in Portland on May 5, 1934, a daughter of Charles E. and Marion (Verrill) Hunnewell of South Portland, Maine, and attended local schools. On October 9, 1954, she married Captain George E. Johnson USMC, lived in North Carolina until 1959, then lived in Greenville, being a great mother and house keeper plus working parttime in the schools and library until moving to Scarborough in 1977. Mrs. Johnson retired from Maine Medical Center Cath Lab after many years of service cultivating many long-term friendships. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed traveling with her husband, reading, family get-togethers, and being a social butterfly. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Portland as well as American Legion Auxiliary, Elizabeth Wadsworth Chapter DAR, Pythian Sisters, Eastern Star and the Westbrook and Scarborough Seniors. Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, George E. Johnson in 2020; brother, Robert Hunnewell; her sister-in-law, Frances Hunnewell and granddaughter, Jessica. Surviving is her daughter, Karen A. Bowen Pooler and her husband, Glen; Grandson, Adam Bowen and his wife, Shannon and their sons Aiden and Sawyer; Step-Granddaughters Abi and Emma Pooler and their son August. Also survived by son, Stephen; granddaughter, Natalie; great-grandson, Kameron; nieces, nephews and their families. Everyone who knew and loved Ann, saw that she was a generous, sweet, kind, and lovely person whom some said she was 'the salt of the earth'. She will be greatly and sadly missed! The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Gorham House and Beacon Hospice for their generous and kind care of Ann. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a favorite charity of your choice. A private graveside service will be held at the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery, Portland at a later date.
