Obituary

Andrew Lambert "Andy" Davis died unexpectedly after a brief battle with cancer on April 10, 2023 at the age of 53. He was born in Worcester, MA on April 18, 1969, the son of the late William H. Davis and Beverly Lambert Davis. Andy spent much of his life in Windham, Maine, graduating from Windham High School, Class of 1987 and the University of Maine at Orono, Class of 1992. Andy was an old soul, deeply connected to nature, the people around him and even to strangers. Inquisitive and curious, with a high degree of empathy and intuition, life for him was about making connections. He was known for making friends easily wherever he went due to his cheerful demeanor, inviting personality and keen ability to engage anyone and everyone into a conversation on any topic. He was a consummate storyteller, for he loved to share a good tale, no matter how long it took….and it could take a while!! Andy intuitively understood when a person was in need and was compelled and determined to help support them in any way he could. Sometimes that meant lending his expertise as a "Jack of all Trades" handyman. At other times, it was providing an essential item needed at precisely the right time. More importantly, he was always the first one there to offer others comfort, emotional support and encouragement when needed. He gave of himself to others, never expecting or asking for anything in return. Generous to a fault, he was determined to do what he considered was the right thing. Compassionate and loyal, he was devoted to everyone that he loved, be it his family or his friends that he considered family. He had a gift for making everyone feel valued and important when in his presence. Even though Andy was always on the go, he was happiest when fishing, feeling most calm and at peace with a fishing pole in his hand, a body of water at his feet, and someone to teach his tricks of the trade to, patiently bestowing his wisdom and sharing his passion. He loved to share his favorite childhood quote from The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame. It reads: "Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats". This was evidenced by his varied collection of boats and fishing gear amassed over the years!! Despite technologic advances like GPS, Andy always relied on his trusty Gazetteers, having spent a considerable amount of time plotting the course to a location and a different route home, so one would not have to see the same thing twice. He was always up for an adventure and loved to share with others a particular route or destination that he believed they would enjoy. He never stopped thinking or contemplating what was next and his skill at meticulously planning a trip was legendary. Andy will be forever missed by his loving wife of 28 years, Amber Turkington Davis, along with all their "fur babies". Andy will also be lovingly remembered by his mother, Beverly Lambert Davis, his stepmother Bonnie Beaudette Davis, his brother Christopher Davis and his sister Jill Jandreau and her husband Brian. He also leaves numerous "nieces and nephews", who lovingly referred to him as Uncle Andy. His indelible spirit will live on, not only in his surviving family members, but by all who had the pleasure of meeting and knowing him, for cherished moments shared with him left imprints on many hearts and souls. Think of Andy when you reach out to aid someone in need, or you are dealt a winning hand in a rousing game of Spades, or you are experiencing the prize-winning catch bending your line as you reel it in. Look around, as Andy would, taking in the many natural wonders surrounding you and savor the connections you are making; be it with people, a place, an animal, or that prized fish, and know that Andy is there to share in the joy, as he always did. A celebration in honor of Andy's life will be held at a later date. In memory of Andy, please consider donating to the Animal Refuge League in Westbrook, Maine.
