Obituary

Andrew C. Anderson, 77, of Windham, Maine, passed away Sunday, March 6th, 2016 at the Gosnell Hospice Center, surrounded by his loving family, after a long, courageous battle with mesothelioma.  He was the son of Hans and Alma Anderson.  Andy was a long time Westbrook, Maine resident. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard during the Berlin Crisis and was a longtime member of the American Legion. Andy was a true Maine outdoorsman who loved his winters to cross country ski, snowmobile, and burn cords of wood to heat the house, and loved his summers to swim in the lake, take people out on his boat water skiing or for sunset cruises, and then finish the day by sitting around the campfire laughing and talking with family. He met his wife, then Judith Ross, at a dance in Westbrook in 1960 and they shared 55 years of blissful marriage together. They lived in a beautiful house on Little Sebago that Andy designed and built himself, using trees from the lot for the lumber. This was how Andy lived his life, with a simple, but beautiful, Maine practicality. Nothing was wasted, nothing was purchased if he could make it himself, nobody repaired something for him if he could do it himself. There was not a problem that he couldn't think through and come up with a solution. Andy was a self-made businessman also, co-founding Thompson & Anderson Sheet Metal in 1973 with Russ Thompson. Andy served as the CEO of the company for the last 29 years. Andy was widely respected in his field. People knew they come to Andy with any problem regarding sheet metal installation, duct work , or stove pipe and he could design a solution and solve the problem.  Andy is predeceased by his parents. Andy is survived by Judith, his wife of 55 years; 4 children: Teresa and her husband Mike Belanger, Andy and his wife Laurie, Donna and her husband Scott Jordan, and Maureen and her husband Dale Mains ; 12 grandchildren: Melissa, Derek, Ryan, Keith, Brianna, Ashlie, Kayla, Britney, Adam, Spencer, Brooke, Bridget, and 6 great grandchildren: Natalie, Connor, Caleb, Taylor, Hunter, and born on March 3rd, 2016, the newest Anderson, Abigail Drew; two brothers, Norman and his wife Judy of Scarborough and Raymond and wife Marion of Westbrook; and theree nieces.  The family would like to say special thanks to Dr. James Zietlin, and Dr. Devan Evans for their exceptional care. Visiting hours will be held from 12 to 2 PM, Friday March 11th followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St. Westbrook.  Interment will be in St. Hyacinth Cemetery.  Online condolences can be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com.
