Obituary

Gorham- Andy Wood, 77, passed away peacefully at her home on Veterans Day, November 11, 2016 in the presence of her husband and in the hearts of her family after a long and courageous battle against cancer. Andy was born in Salem, MA on April 21, 1939, the daughter of the late Ralph W. and Eleanor M. (Enslin) Swan. She grew up in Winchester, MA and graduated from Winchester High School in 1957. She attended Denison University in Granville, OH and attained an Associate's Degree from the Vesper George School of Art in Boston. She became employed as a Commercial Artist in the advertising department of Filene's department store in Boston. On October 1, 1966, she married Robert N. Wood of Gorham, ME and had two children, Douglas and Kristin. Andy was devoted to her family. She made them her ultimate priority, leaving her career as an artist to raise her children and assume the most important job of all as a homemaker. She made the warmest and most beautiful of homes and her family will be eternally grateful. In Andy's younger days she was known among mariners as a "rough water sailor". She was an avid racer and her love for the ocean never dissipated. She always delighted in boating or in driving to the ocean to watch the waves. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, art, music, reading, cooking, and she adored an exciting game of Dominoes with her family. She was an amazing listener and had a gift for giving advice and for guiding and comforting. She had a fantastic sense of humor and she was admired and treasured by many. Andy is survived by her beloved husband, Robert N. Wood; son, Douglas Wood and his significant other Rebekah Libby of Berwick, ME; daughter, Kristin Wood-Christian and her husband William Christian of Hampton, NH; grandchildren, Cameron Wood and Hannah, Kevin, and Julia Christian; sister, Judith Swan Donnell of Virginia Beach, VA; among many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob and Andy recently had the privilege of celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary surrounded by loved ones. It was truly a special occasion. We feel that there is not a more fitting day for her to have passed away than on Veterans Day, as she fought the battle against cancer fiercely and in every way will always be our hero. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for December 3, 2016 from noon to 4 p.m. at The Old Salt Restaurant at Lamie's Inn, 490 Lafayette Rd. Hampton, NH Interment and reception planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Andrea S. Wood to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
