Westbrook – Alfred E. Cousins Jr. passed away Tuesday Dec. 12 at the Barron Center. Alfred was born on in Brewer, ME on December 4, 1918 the son of Alfred and Edna (Jameson) Cousins. He graduated from Brewer High School in 1937. Alfred married Kathryn Frances Kelly of Hampden, ME on July 31, 1940 and together they had 4 children. Alfred entered the Army on Dec. 3, 1944 and served his country in the Pacific during World War II, and was one of the first troops to enter Tokyo, Japan after the end of the war. Before retirement, he sold construction and logging equipment. Alfred was a member of the Maine Mineralogical & Geological society. He had many different hobbies in his life including being a rock hound, a collector of antique cameras, and going to auctions and flea markets. He had a great knowledge of all things old and antique and people would seek his advice and opinion on many odd collectibles and antiques, he was known as an honest man to do business with. He was a true outdoorsman and loved spending time at his cabin in the woods on the Muddy River in Naples, ME where he was known as the Muddy River native, where a cup of hot coffee and a great conversation was always ready for whoever stopped to visit. While at the Barron Center he was known as the Magazine Librarian and had a mission to deliver reading materials to those less able to get around than him. Alfred was pre-deceased by his wife Kathryn, and a great grandson. He is survived by his 4 children, Judith Richard and her partner Dr. J. Chase Rand of Raymond, Margaret Merritt and her partner Charlotte Napolitano of Falmouth, Joseph Cousins and his wife Linda of Freeport, Mark Cousins and his wife Bonny of Westbrook, 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and a great great grandchild. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the wonderful people at the Barron Center and Dr. Shannon Meredith for their care for him during in his final days.
