Westbrook, Alfred E. Belisle, 82, was born in Biddeford on October 24, 1933, the only child of Albert Belisle and Esther Whittingham Bright. He passed away unexpectedly at his Westbrook home on Tuesday, September 27th. Al graduated from Biddeford High School and went on to attend the University of Maine. He graduated in 1956 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He served 2 years as an officer in the U.S. Army before returning to complete his Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maine in 1960. He was a world renowned expert in the Pulp & Paper Industry, providing consulting services throughout his career. He started his career as a research engineer for SD Warren, before eventually becoming the owner and president of Gorham International Inc. He met his wonderful wife of 57 years, Margaret "Peggy" Julian, while he was completing his Master's degree. They settled in Westbrook, where Al organized and ran the youth Tuffy League Football program for 12 years. Peg and Al divided their time between Westbrook and Naples, Florida after retirement. They were long-time members of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Westbrook. He is survived by Peggy, his sons Scott and Kevin and daughter, Susan. Grandchildren Lauren Crane, Allison Belisle, David Belisle, Krista Belisle and twins Adam and Eric Belisle. Al enjoyed golfing in Gorham and Naples, FL. He enjoyed hunting and loved sports. The wake will be held on Sunday, Oct. 2nd from 2 – 4 pm at the Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church Street, Westbrook, ME. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, Oct. 3rd at 10 am at St. Anthony Parish (St. Hyacinth), 268 Brown Street, Westbrook, ME. A reception will follow in the church hall.
