Obituary

Alda G. Roy, 85, died after a long illness on February 6, 2013, at the Barron Center in Portland, Maine.   She was born on May 25, 1927, the oldest child of Philip and Domitile Moreau.  She was born and raised in Westbrook, Maine where she lived her entire life.   She married her late husband, Norman A. Roy, on August 9, 1949.  They were a devoted and loving couple for 45 years and until Norman's untimely and unexpected passing in November of 1994. She was a full-time housewife for many years before being employed part-time at a local corner store, Zayre's Department Store and at Bradlees Department Store.  After her late husband's death, she volunteered for fourteen years in the Foster Grandparents Program serving in the Westbrook School System.  She loved children and glowed in their presence. She was a communicant of St. Hyacinth Church which currently is in St. Anthony's Parish.  She was a consummate member of her church attending services regularly, participating in the church choir, a Eucharistic Minister, as well as assisting at Beano and other church functions.  She was also a member of the Society of Saint Anne – a church affiliate of Christian service. She loved music.  She studied music as a child and regularly played piano, organ, guitar, and harmonica - often while other family members sang and or played along with their own musical instruments. For several years upon retirement, she and her husband traveled throughout the USA and Quebec Provence.  They loved to go on trips together and did so regularly as a couple and in groups. She was a loving mother to her two children – David & Eva.  We will remember her first and foremost for her greatest gift – that of unconditional love.  Mom showered us with her love and sacrifice as we were growing up.  We are so blessed to have had her for our loving mother. She was pre-deceased by a brother Arthur Moreau and a sister Ruth (Moreau) Barr.   She is survived by her son David N. Roy of Westbrook and his wife Jo Anne, her daughter Eva (Roy) Libbey of Westbrook and her husband Doug, her sisters Mrs. Hurbain (Eva) Roy of Westbrook, Anita Moreau of Westbrook, Mrs. Robert (Lorraine) Shaw of Manchester, NH, and Mrs. Michael (Jeannette) Demers of Sanford, Me, and a brother Philip Moreau of Standish, Me.  She has four grandchildren Michelle Roy Thayer, Elaine Roy Flagg, Kimberly Roy and Lisa Crockett, and six great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Blais & Hay Funeral Home 35 Church St. Westbrook. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Hyacinth Church in St. Anthony's Parish.  Burial will be in the spring in St. Hyacinth Cemetery.
