BUXTON – A. Monika Oldham, 74, died on November 20, 2016 after a long illness. She was born in East Orange, New Jersey on August 7, 1942, the daughter of the late Erik and Astrid (Hinna) Warnquist. Monika grew up in New Jersey and was a graduate of the Newark Art High School, class of 1960. After high school, she moved to Maine, and was working at a local department store in Portland, where she met her future husband, George Oldham. The couple were together for three years, before they married in 1965. After a brief stay in Connecticut, the couple moved back to Maine, and raised their family in Buxton. Monika held many careers over the years, but was most proud of her position managing the cafeteria for SAD 6, and working at SIS Bank in Buxton. She was an active member of the Buxton United Methodist Church, where she was the choir director for over 30 years. Monika had a talent for music and was able to play the piano, cello, and violin. She also excelled at knitting, making both baby clothes and sweaters. Monika enjoyed swimming, gardening, and watching her Red Sox play whenever they were on, but loved the time she spent with her family above all else. In addition to her husband of over 51 years, George, Monika is survived by her daughter, April Marie Janelle; son, Glen and his wife Tara; grandchildren, David, Alicia, and Devin; brother Eric V. Warnquist and wife Rozy; and two nephews. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 3-5pm on Tuesday, November 29, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham. A memorial service will be held at 6pm, the same day at the Buxton United Methodist Church, 276 Chicopee Rd, Buxton. Burial will be at a later date.
