Stacee Smith

March 25, 1973 - January 28, 2022

Stacee was born on March 23, 1973 , to Walter and Adele Cox. She was joined over the next twelve years by her six siblings; the “bigs” - Eric, Beth, and BJ, and then a few years later, the “littles” - Lauren, Gabe, and Ali. Her parents raised the family under the protection and guidance of Jesus. This profoundly shaped her life. After graduating from Oak Hill she attended Gordon College where shortly after graduation she met her husband of 23 years, Ethan Smith. After 2 years in Hamilton, MA they moved, site unseen, to Windham and there raised their three boys; Jack, Ezra, and Finn. It’s been a great place to call home! Her house was known as a place of peace and comfort. Her kitchen table was a place of warmth and welcome for friends and family in need of someone to chat with. Aside from her family, her greatest love was to be outdoors with close friends. Through September and October she hiked 8 mountains in Maine and New Hampshire, including Mt Washington on a warm day in October. She felt closest to her God and her true self when spending time in his creation. Cancer could have ruined the last 11 years of her life but it absolutely never defined her. Her drive to make the most out of every day was never more evident than in her stay at hospice in January when she “escaped” to go for a walk on Higgins beach. She spent her life trusting in her wild but loving God. On January 28th, surrounded by her family and close friends, she let go of this world to be home in the next. We are wrecked, but we are not alone. There will be a public celebration of life, fitting to her sensibilities, in the late spring or early summer. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Timbernook, the place Stacee worked over the last year. Timbernook provides an opportunity for young kids to grow up with the wonder of the woods, Stacee’s life mission .
