Leon Tibbetts

March 31, 1936 - March 6, 2022

Leon W Tibbetts, 85 of Gorham went home to live with his heavenly father on Sunday March 6th at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was one of nine children born to Lionel and Doris Tibbetts on March 31 1936 in South Portland. Leon had a long career as a carpenter/contractor where he was able to showcase perfectionism in his fine woodworking skills. He married his wife Gloria May 26th 1973 and took on the project of renovating their 1800’s era colonial home in Gorham. The light of Leon’s life was spending time with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, camping, and sharing his passion for life with them. After his retirement he traveled throughout Maine, Canada, and the United States with his wife Gloria. Besides his parents he is pre-deceased by siblings Doris, Philip, Elaine, Florence, Avis, Abbie and his daughter Valerie and stepson Kim Dorr. He is survived by siblings Linda, Elanor, and Janice, his children Leon and wife Karen of Port Orange Florida, Cindy of Oxford Maine, Allison and husband David of Gardnerville Nevada, Tim and wife Sonja of Gorham Maine, His 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Leon had a large impact on so many people that it can’t possibly be expressed here, his life has had so much meaning to those of us that knew him well and his absence that will stay with us for the rest of our lives. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for their compassionate care as well as Springbrook Center Nursing Facility where Leon Resided for the for the past year. The services will be held at Standish Baptist Church, 181 Ossipee Trail W, Standish Maine on Saturday March 12 at 11:00 am, with a reception to follow immediately after at the church. Burial will be later in the spring.
