Cumberland Center Ruth Jorgensen Clark passed away peacefully on April 11, 2016, with family at her side. She was born in Windham, Maine on August 9, 1931 and was the daughter of Linda and Herbert Jorgensen. Ruth was raised in a family that had a deep respect for educational pursuits, and her studies helped her attain the honor of being named Salutatorian of her graduating class at Windham High School. While enjoying an evening of dance, Ruth met Keith Clark, the man she would later marry and with whom she would spend the next sixty years. Initially, they ran a dairy farm in Westbrook, before moving to Cumberland to raise their family. Ruth devoted her time to her children and her work. She was a doting mother to her four boys and their families. As a cook and server in the Cumberland school system for 30 years, she took pride in food preparation and was known to give an extra helping on occasion. At home, she prepared delicious meals, kept an immaculate house, and tended to the vegetable and flower gardens. Her neighbors were the fortunate recipients of many warm smiles, as well as numerous types of fruits and vegetables. She will be remembered by her nine grandchildren as a positive influence and a reminder to always see the bright side of life. Her strength, work ethic, and generosity were traits to be both admired and emulated. In her later years, Ruthie was well known among staff at the nursing homes, both Brentwood Manor and Hawthorne House, and many claimed they loved her warm personality and positive attitude, which shone clearly despite her battle with Alzheimer's disease. Ruth is predeceased by her husband, Keith Clark; siblings Eugene Jorgensen, Charles Jorgensen, and Helen Batchalder; and leaves behind her loving children, Raymond Clark and his wife Ceil of Cumberland, Ronald Clark and his wife Petra of Amherst, NH, Rick Clark and his wife Jeanne of Sanford, and Rod Clark and his wife Rachel of Yarmouth. In addition, she is beloved by her nine grandchildren, Rachael, Sabrina, Krystie, Katie, Alison, Ryan, Shannon, Michelle and Adam, and two great-grandchildren, Bryan and Brea. She is also survived by her sister, Louise Leighton, of Westbrook and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth's family would like to thank the staff of Hawthorne House for the care and attention shown to Ruth that brought comfort to all at the end of her life. A funeral service will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday, April 23, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham. Visitation will be held from 9am until the time of the service. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Westbrook.
