Roy Hicks

Roy Hicks- Gorham Roy Hicks 83 passed away unexpectantly on July 19th 2023, at his home in Gorham. He was born August 27, 1940 in Portland Maine a son of Harry Hicks, and Ruth Hicks of Gorham. Roy graduated from SMVTI with Associate degree in automotive mechanics. Roy was happily married to Elizabeth (Betty) Jemery on November 4, 1961, his wife of 61 years. He began his mechanics career at Merrill Transport, until a great opportunity presented itself to him at United Parcel Service where he worked for the rest of his career until retirement. Roy was well known for many 4H-farm tractor driving awards as a young man, as well as competitive pistol shooting awards. He had a cabinet full of awards and trophies from his accomplishments. But maybe Roy’s greatest accomplishment was his son Michael Hicks (who wrote this, and maybe up for discussion). After retirement, Roy found enjoyment working at Patten Farm- where he drove farm tractors, and performed light mechanical repairs. He loved animals of all kinds but had a special bond to one cat in particular - Buddy. They had a bond that was unrepeatable. Buddy recently passed also, and that hit Roy hard- that is why his wish was any donation be made to the Westbrook Animal Refuge League. Roy loved anything truck/tractor related and enjoyed his snowmobile trips up north. until his health prevented him from performing these functions. Roy is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Hicks, daughter, Lisa Toderico and her husband Tom; son, Michael Hicks and his wife Lisa; four grandchildren, Heather Hicks, Kayla Hicks, Scott Toderico, and Shawn Toderico and one great grandson Brayden Hicks. Roy loved all his family equally, and unconditionally. He loved animals and would do anything to help others in need. He would sacrifice his own happiness to make sure those around him were provided for. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday July 25th 5-7pm at the Windham Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee 434 River Road, Windham. A private graveside service will be held at the South Gorham Cemetery.
