Roman J. Trzenska

Westbrook, Roman J. Trzenska died peacefully on January 18, 2012 at the Maine Veteranâ€™s Home in Scarborough. He was born in Westbrook, ME on August 9th, 1925. A son of Marcel Frank and Mary Gladys Trzenska. Roman was educated in Westbrook Schools. He worked at S.D. Warren Co. for 44 + years. He joined U.S. Navy in July 1943 and served during WWII as a gunner to protect freighters from enemy aircraft. He served on the â€œEdward Livingstonâ€, â€œHall J. Kelleyâ€, and â€œParsaâ€ and the â€œWilliam Sharonâ€. He served in the Pacific , Atlantic , Meditterean, Japan and North Africia in the Armed Guard. Roman received the WWII Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, EAME Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal and Point and Point System. Roman was discharged in 1943 and returned home to Westbrook, Maine. He married Octavia Smith on June 25, 1949. Roman was very active at Westbrook Warren Congregational Church and was a past deacon , he worked on bean suppers and church fairs, was involved with member friends club. Roman delivered meals on wheels for 15 yrs. He was past president of the Kiwanis. He was a bell ringer for 19 years, and was involved with the American Legion for 53 years. Roman traveled extensively to Europe, he loved cruising and completed 20 cruises. His favorite music was â€œBig Voodoo Daddyâ€, and Daniel Oâ€™Donald. During Memorial Day Parade he marched with the American Legion, and marched as â€œSanta Clausâ€ for church. Roman loved family birthday parties and being at family gatherings. He loved to tease the grandchildren. He was loving, and had a great sense of humor and loved his family. He was predeceased by a son, Dr. David Trzenska, DMD in 1987, three sisters, Sophie Wormwood, Irene Wagner and Alice Richards. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Octavia, a daughter, Sandra and husband Dale Perry, two grandchildren, Stephen Perry and wife Amanda, Jennifer Dubendris and partner James Lombardo, 4 great grandchildren, Alex Maxwell, Kerri Dubendris, Kayla Perry and Joseph Perry. Known as â€œBumpaâ€ by his grand and great grandchildren; sister, Lucy McGinty of North Carolina, sister in laws Jean Barry, Virginia Peton, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Blais & Hay Funeral Home 35 Church St. Westbrook. Burial will be private.
