Gray- Robert A. Moody, 80, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018 in Portland. The son of Ronald and Juliana Adelene (Hopkinson) Moody, he was born in Whitefield New Hampshire on April 17, 1938. His family moved to Windham and he graduated from Windham High School where he excelled in playing basketball. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served 5 tours of duty in Vietnam. He served in the Navy for 19 years retiring as a Petty Officer 1st Class. After his discharge from the military he and his wife Elaine settled in Gray. During his time in the Navy he was often called upon to fix electrical problems on the ships, because of this, he was hired right away by Bath Iron Works when he moved to Maine where he worked for 18 ½ years as a quality insurance inspector. He was very active in the Masons belonging to Cumberland Lodge # 12 in New Gloucester. He was involved in the Shriners, the Scottish Rite and served as a "Dad Advisor" for the Rainbow Girls. He was a member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Windham. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling in leagues with his wife. He also enjoyed travelling especially to Hawaii, where he vacationed several times with his wife and family. He was predeceased by his brother Leon "Sonny" Moody. He is survived by his wife Elaine (Haley) Moody of 57 years, his daughter Dorothy Moody-Lagasse and her husband Michael of Gray, his brother Bernard Moody and his wife Cindy of Buxton, his sister Carlene Gantnier and her husband Richard of Saco, and his grandogs Kona & Hilo (named after favorite Islands in Hawaii). Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 3-5 PM at the Windham Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee, 434 River Rd. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 40 Windham Center Rd. Windham. Interment with Military Honors will follow the service at Arlington Cemetery in Windham. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Robert's memory to the American Heart Association, 51 US-1 # M, Scarborough, ME 04074 or to the Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 1797 Saco, Maine 04072. Robert's family wishes to thank Hospice of Southern Maine, Dr. Donald Medd, Dr. Thomas Ryan, and the staff of the Cedars Nursing Home, for all the excellent care they provided.
