Windham- Robert Jake "RJ" Hamby, son of Robert Gray Hamby and Ruby Lee Lineberry was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit at Forest Hill Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, NC and later confessed his baptismal faith in the rite of Confirmation at St. John's Lutheran Church, Winston-Salem. RJ was joined together in holy matrimony to Becky Happel on September 24, 1976. On May 23, 2018, RJ Hamby, at the age of 58 years, he now rests in the loving arms of Jesus. He attended R.J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem and went on to earn a degree from East Coast Polytech Institute in North Carolina. He was a very active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, in Gorham, where he held every major office in the church. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, camping, and tinkering around his house. He also enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams the Cleveland Browns, and the Boston Red Sox. RJ is survived by his wife Becky Hamby of Windham, his sons Micheal Hamby and his wife Michelle of Ellsworth, Timothy Hamby and his wife Lisa of Kernersville NC, and Matthew Hamby and his wife Erica of Windham, his grandchildren Gerald (JJ), Anthony, Garrett, Samuel, Jacob, Spencer, Brendan, Joshua, and Abigail. He is also survived by his sister Lisa Beck of Welcome NC. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 410 Main St. Gorham, Rev. Timothy E. Sandeno officiating. Interment will follow at Mayberry Cemetery, Park Rd. Windham. A reception will follow the interment at the church.
