Obituary

BUXTON - Patricia June Libby, 88, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 4, 2021. She was born on June 25, 1933, to Kenneth and Ellen Pride. Patricia, or 'Patty' as many liked to call her, grew up in Westbrook and attended Westbrook schools. She worked at Fairchild and S.D. Warren, and married the love of her life, Ernest 'Ernie' Libby in 1953. They were married for fifty-eight years, until Ernie passed in 2011. Initially they lived on Peaks Island and then moved to Westbrook to raise their three children, Kim, Mike, and Pam. Patty was passionate about her family and devoted her life to caring for her children and grandchildren. She was thrilled to welcome great grandchildren into her life, and her greatest joy was spending time with all of them. She loved Christmas and eagerly looked forward to it each year. Hers was often the very first Christmas card that would arrive in the mail, usually the day after Thanksgiving (and sometimes before!). She celebrated with a generous and loving heart and loved to donate to many local charities raising funds for families in need. She was a was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Westbrook, faithfully teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and singing in the choir. She was an usher and volunteered at many church events. She was also a member of the Westbrook Women's Club and after moving to Naples in retirement, volunteered at the local food pantry with her husband. In her later years, she became a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Windham, Maine. Throughout her life, Patty helped people whenever she could, and extended her kindness to everyone she met. She had a gentle and loving spirit, and she adopted and cared for many pets, all of whom lived their best lives with Patty as their mom! She loved music, reading, and visiting Maine's beautiful lakes and seashore. She embraced life and all those around her with love and compassion and was full of gratitude for all the blessings throughout her 88 years. She would often say that 'one is blessed so they can bless others' which was exactly what she did as often as she was able. Patty is survived by her three children, Kimberly Sanborn and her husband, Rick, Mike Libby and his wife, Dene, and Pam Smith and her husband, Perry; as well as four grandchildren, Nate and his wife, Jen, Lisa, Mindy, and Heather; five great-grandchildren, Maisie, Rheanna, Owen, CJ and Arthur; and her step-grandchild, Kyle. She is also survived by many Pride sisters and brothers, and dozens of nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. A Mass for Christian Burial will be held, 10 a.m., Thursday, May 5, 2022, at St. Hyacinth Church, 268 Brown St., Westbrook. Burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Westbrook will follow the church service. Memorial gifts may be directed to the Maine Children's Home Christmas Program, 93 Silver Street, Waterville, ME, 04901 or to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 919 Roosevelt Trail, Windham, ME 04062.
