WINDHAM—Norman W. Spear, 76, passed away December 18, 2018 at Mercy Hospital. He was born March 29, 1942, a son of Norman and Cecilia (Kane) Spear. Norman attended Cheverus High School and worked at Forest City Cemetery before joining the United States Navy. Norman proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and spent 11 months of duty captured by North Korea as a POW while on the USS Pueblo. Norman had fond memories of the time he spent in Woodworth, Louisiana. He enjoyed operating control line airplanes, attending Portland Pirate hockey games, and socializing with his coffee friends at the American Legion in Windham. Norman is survived by his wife, Linda Spear and her children; his sons, John and his wife Angela of Phoenix, AZ, and William Spear of Oswego, NY; a granddaughter Abbey Spear and her son Luis Spear; and many other extended family members. A period of visitation will be held on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 3pm to 4pm at the Windham Chapel of Dolby Blais & Segee, 434 River Road, Windham, ME; where a funeral service will begin at 4pm. The family would like to thank the Maine Veteran's Home in Scarborough and the 5th floor staff on the Cardiac Unit at Mercy Hospital for the excellent care provided to Norman.
