CASCO – Mel "Papa" Cottle, Jr., 54, passed away on August 28,2020 doing what he loved. He was born in Portland on August 2, 1966, the son of Melvin F., Sr. and Nellie (Gardner) Cottle. Mel was a confident man, never afraid to share his opinion about things and was known to be a little stubborn at times. He also had a great sense of humor that was well known within his circle of family and friends. He will be remembered for his love of deer hunting in the fall, and tinkering on vehicles. He was a well-known race car driver at Beech Ridge in Scarborough. A very patriotic man, Mel served his country in the U.S. Army. The most important thing in Mel's life was his family, he was a devoted family man and was especially proud to be "Papa" to his grandbabies. In addition to his wife, Tammy Cottle, Mel is survived by his daughter, Nicole Marie Libby and her husband, Tyler; son, Joshua Cottle and his wife, Jessica; grandchildren, Alexis Libby, Adrian Cottle, Camden Frost, and Keely Frost; sister, Denise Cottle; and dear friends that were as close as family, Betty and Dave Nelson, and the boys. Mel was predeceased by his sister, Christine State. A celebration of life will be held, 12 noon, Saturday, September 5, 2020 at the family home, 29 Terrace Lane, Casco, ME 04015.
