Obituary

Marie J. (Francouer) Mathieu, 90, of Westbrook passed on Wednesday October 17, 2012 at the Barron Center in Portland, Maine after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Marie was born in Saint Victor, Quebec, Canada on May 31, 1922 as the first daughter of Joseph and Marie Anne (Roy) Francouer. When Marie was at the early age of one, Joe and Marie Anne moved their young family from Quebec to Waterville Maine. On May 20, 1946 Marie married the one true love of her life, Lucien L. Mathieu who was her husband for 65 years until he passed on September 4, 2011. In 1958 Marie and Lou and their family moved to Westbrook, which they all still call home. Marie's life, her heart, her full time profession, was being a great wife and mother. Amongst her family, relatives, and friends Marie was always celebrated for being a great host and wonderful cook. Over the years many shared Marie's great food, and hospitality while they gathered at her and her late husband Lucien's (Fiddling Lou) home for fantastic food, music, and companionship. Marie also made time in her life for others, as she was involved in Saint Mary's Women's Club and also enjoyed ministering to local seniors of Westbrook over they years. Marie's was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years Lucien L Mathieu. Marie is survived by her beloved son Louis Mathieu and his wife Maureen, and her adored daughter Marie Trudel, and her husband Jerry. Her daughter-in-law Brenda Mathieu, and her grandchildren Kim and Jayson Mathieu as well as her great granddaughter Chloe Mathieu also survive her. Her dearly loved sister Gabrielle Durb of Waterville and many nephews and nieces also survive her. Marie's brothers Alcide and Raymond Francouer as well as her sister Dorilda Masse predecease her. The family is so thankful for the staff and the care that Marie received during her time at the Barron Center. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 5 PM Sunday at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Monday at St. Anthony's Church in Westbrook followed by interment in St. Hyacinth Cemetery.  On line condolences may be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com.
