Westbrook – John E. Swett Sr. 82, of Franklin St. passed away Wednesday March 14, at the Springbrook Health Care. He was born in Westbrook, the son of Robert A. and Leona Richard Swett Sr.. John was raised, educated and lived all of his life in Westbrook. He was a 1950 graduate of Westbrook High School. John served in the U.S. Navy. He had been employed at the Clarke Farm, the S. D. Warren Co., and for the U. S. Postal Service in Westbrook for over 33 years.. John loved being with his family, he was also known for his sense of humor and wit. He was an active member of St. Mary's Church, where he was a member of the Mens Club, assisted at many bean suppers and also served as custodian of the Church. He was also an active member of the American Legion. He enjoyed bowling, camping and actually spent his whole life in the family home. John was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Alfred, Robert Jr. and Richard. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Jeannette Richard Swett, 3 sons John Jr. and wife Linda Swett of N.C., Mike Sr. and wife Cathy Swett of Portland, Steve Sr. and wife Nancy Swett of Yarmouth, 3 daughters Linda and husband Gene Syphers of Bangor, Barbara and husband Jim Blanche of Westbrook, Susan and husband Ken Welsch of Portland, 21 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, a brother James Swett of Windham and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Blais & Hay Funeral Home 35 Church St. Westbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church Brown St. Westbrook. Interment will be in St. Hyacinth Cemetery.
