Obituary

WESTBROOK – Helen Parkhurst Knoop passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 7, 2016. She was the second oldest of 7 children of Andrew "Buster" Dionne and his wife, Arlene Shane Dionne. She was born in Portland on January 30, 1942 and raised in Gorham. Helen enjoyed spending time with her brothers and sisters, her children and grandchildren and her many friends. She was always there for everyone and would give her last dollar to those in need. She was very generous and honest and you always knew where you stood with her. She loved to play cards with her friends and family, do crossword puzzles, play scrabble, play beano, visit casinos, cooking and baking for her family and friends and looked forward to family reunions. Music and dancing was always a big part of her life which she enjoyed with her family throughout the years. Helen was predeceased by her parents, her first born son Thomas Parkhurst, her sister Virginia Blake, her brother Harlen Dionne and many dear friends. Surviving are her son, John Parkhurst and his wife Sherri, sons Dalton and Nathan and daughter Abbie; her daughter Tracey Mowatt and her daughter Andrea; her ex-husband and father of her children Howard Parkhurst of which she remained very close to. Her sisters, Terry and her husband Skip Welch, Jeannette and her husband Sheryl Parker, Kate and her husband Bob Genthner; brother Larry Dionne and his partner in life, Sandra Eastman; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to especially thank Dottie, Sandy and Georgia for their assistance with her care during this difficult time and for being such wonderful neighbors to her at her home at Longfellow Place in Westbrook. A special thank you also to her sisters and their families for the care and support during her illness. A visitation and sharing of memories period will be held from 3:00 – 5:00pm on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham.
